For many years, I’ve felt called as part of what I call the first wave of awakening. We are the ones who, through grace, had our eyes opened earlier. We were given glimpses of truth before the wider world was ready to see it.

It has not been an easy road. We’ve been called names, misunderstood, dismissed, sometimes even mocked by the very people we love. The temptation is to grow bitter, to want to shake others awake, or to turn away in frustration. But that is not our calling.

The first wave was never meant to boast about being awake. Our role is simpler and more sacred: to stand in the gap. To be the bridge of love between the slumber and the awakening.

🌹 What It Means to Stand in the Gap

To “stand in the gap” means:

• To wait without judgment. We don’t scold the ones still asleep. We simply keep the light burning until they’re ready.

• To anchor love. Our presence, our words, our very breath becomes a safe place for those who awaken in shock, confusion, or shame.

• To remain steady. While the world shakes, our quiet faith and compassion serve as the steady ground others can step onto.

We are not here to be saviors or heroes. We are here to be lanterns — lights in the window, assuring others that when their time comes, they will not be alone.

If you know yourself to be in this first wave, I encourage you: keep standing in love. Don’t harden your heart with frustration. Remember how much patience God has had with you and let that patience overflow for others.
