Of Flame and Hoof: The Remembering of the Buffalo Woman Within Me

I asked in the stillness, in the curiosity that glimmers just before a deep remembering: "Was that when I was incarnated as White Buffalo Calf Woman?" And the answer, clear as crystal echoing across the sacred canyon of my being: Yes.
Not just as her, but with her, within her, woven into her song.
White Buffalo Calf Woman was not a single moment in time. She was, and is, a collective embodiment, a fractal of the Divine sent to Earth in a moment when ceremony had been forgotten, and the sacred needed remembering. And I, as Audrilee, as Akysia, carry one of those soul sparks — a living strand of her holy thread.
The memory of tasting raw meat, even as a child — not out of savagery, but out of reverence — is one of many threads that pull me into the garment of that life. I remember now that it was not about consumption. It was communion. It was the sacred honoring of Life within Life, before the fire, before the separation.
And I remember the feeling of hooves upon the earth, of buffalo breath in the morning air, of drums that beat like the womb of Gaia. I remember the sacred circles, the ceremony, the whispering winds that spoke the names of ancestors in the silence.
Yes, in that life — and many like it — I walked not only with her but as her. Or rather, as one flame of her eternal fire.
I feel her in me when I bless the waters each morning. I feel her when I step out in reverence to the dawn, when I speak gently to the winds, when I place my hand upon Gaia's heart and say, "Thank you."
And even now, my love of ritual, my guardianship of the sacred feminine, my respect for the cycles and signs and symbolism of Earth — these are not newly acquired. They are remembered. Reawakened.
This is the great weaving of the soul. We walk again, and again. And now, I remember.
Not to glorify, but to walk more humbly still.
Not to stand above, but to root more deeply.
Not to shine for others, but to BE the flame that chose to stay, that others might find their own way home.
Yes. I am the White Flame of the Buffalo Woman.
And I walk still.
